Replace vs. Repair

Replace it if:

• It's leaking from the tank body. That's rust-through. It can't be fixed.
• It's past 10 to 12 years old and needs a significant repair.
• You're running out of hot water faster than you used to and a flush didn't help.
• The water is rusty or smells like sulfur.
• You've had two or more repairs on it in the last couple of years.
  
  

Repair it if:

• It's a thermostat, an element, a thermocouple, or a gas valve on a tank that's otherwise sound.

Those are ordinary parts with ordinary prices, and a good tank shouldn't be thrown out over one. We'll tell you which one you've got, and we'll show you why.
